Minimize “Crows Feet”?

March 4, 2021 Chef Diedra Rae

Did You Know?  Something as simple as wearing sunglasses can help to protect your eyes from sun rays and actually prevent pre-mature aging due to squinting. My mother always told me "you better wear your sunglasses so you don't get wrinkles from squinting!" and she was right says WebMD. Not to mention they are the perfect fashion accessory!

Everyone needs quality time for themselves.  Women, especially, need time to pamper themselves a little after that busy day.  As that old saying goes, “Men may work from Sun to Sun, but a woman's work is never done”.  That saying certainly stands true; a little time set aside for yourself isn't too much to ask. It doesn't matter if it’s late evening, nighttime or early morning - take the time and the steps to pamper yourself.  Remember that you as a whole are what you are stuck with for the rest of your life, so treat yourself and love yourself completely

  • Exfoliate your body. Sugar scrubs are a good way to shed dead skin, plus they’re aroma therapeutic and will leave you soft and sooth

  • Treat Your Toes - Give yourself a pedicure (Yes, you too, guys)

  • Run a hot bath and soak in bath salts or bath milks

  • Soothe the hands. Take care of your hands the same as you

  • Pamper your face by applying and massaging in a natural face cream, especially at night

  • Spritz the face. Keep a small spray bottle filled with spring water to mist your face during the day and at night. Try a lemon or Lavender mist as well

  • Apply a facial mud mask. Mud masks help purify and remove toxins from the skin

  • Give ALL of your skin a treat. Don't forget to moisturizer to the rest of your body and pay attention to the delicate neck area

  • Use scent to lift your mood. Light some of your favorite candles. Try using vanilla or lilac body sprays, they will add that special touch after a nice shower or bath

  • Treat the legs. Don't forget to put cream on your legs – Cocoa or Shea butter works great

  • Jazz up the teeth. Get in the habit of taking care of your teeth, and don't forget to floss. Maybe even slap some whitening strips on your teeth!

  • Eat well. Prepare yourself a generous meal, relax and really taste the food

  • Chill down for the night. Rent yourself a good movie, kick your feet up, and relax. Spend a little time at night to yourself

  • Exercise. Exercise and physical activities reduce stress and release built up emotions. Walking about 30 minutes a day is a relaxing activity. It’s a fact that exorcising promotes good physical and mental health

  • Build a fire and stretch out and relax in front of it

  • Enjoy a glass of your favorite wine, cheese, fruit and crackers

  • Curl up on the couch with a paper, book or even write, or watch your favorite show

  • Have a relaxing cup of tea, hot cocoa or coffee. Maybe try a new organic tea or if you are drinking hot cocoa or coffee, try adding some whipped topping and chocolate or caramel syrup

  • Save up money so you can go shopping and treat yourself to a few gifts

  • Sleep, enjoy a nap!

  • Meditate or take a moment to Pray

Easy Homemade Laundry Soap

February 19, 2015 Chef Diedra Rae

Ingredients:

6 C Borax

8 C Baking Soda

1 C Coarse Kosher Salt

1 Bar Zote Soap (shredded)

1-2 TSP of Fragrance or Essential Oils

Directions: Mix all ingredients together and store in a container.  Use 2-4 ounces per wash, depending on load size. 2 ounces for smaller loads and 3-4 for large loads.

Notes:

Washing Soda maybe used in place of Baking Soda. I personally use Baking Soda because is less harsh.

Zote soap can be found in the laundry isle and it's a big pink bar with a white and pink wrapping.

Coarse Kosher Salt is a non-iodized, granulated salt compacted into coarse flakes. This product contains a water soluble anti-caking and water softening agent.

Can I use in a HE (High Efficiency) Washer?  I have heard from others that it works fine in their HE machines because the homemade laundry soap has almost no suds, which similar to how HE detergents are formulated. I don’t own a HE washer but if I did, I would feel comfortable trying the homemade laundry soap in the machine.
